About Our Staff
At Matai Youth Camp, we hire exceptional staff members who want to make a difference. They are leaders who are prepared to work hard, care for others, be responsible, build relationships with campers and other staff members and have the best camping experience of their lives!
Most of our staff members have had camping experience and love to work outdoors. Many of our support staff are veterans, who have grown up at camp and keep coming back year after year. We are always happy to welcome new staff members with fresh ideas and a unique perspective into the Matai Youth Camp family.
As a staff member, you will have an opportunity to work with children from ages 8 – 18. Our counsellor staff is made up of University and College students who are dedicated to working with children. Our supervisory staff members are dedicated to ensuring that the camps and staff members are well taken care of in a fun and safe environment. Many are educators, parents and grandparents themselves.

Message for Parents
To those who love our campers the most:
Firstly we would like to say to all parents, that we know that sending your children to camp can become quite an anxious time for you. However, we try our best to keep you updated as to what they are doing. Follow us on the various social mediums and you will see your child having fun, engaging in an activity, learning and growing.
Thank you for providing us with this opportunity for your child to join us at camp, where we will be assisting him / her in building their confidence, working through their goals, dreams and aspirations, building long lasting new friendships, communication, leadership and many more fun and exciting activities.
It means a lot that you are entrusting your children to us here at Matai Youth Camp. Regardless of whether it is your child’s first time or whether your child is an avid camper, our primary goal is to provide every child with the most memorable camp, while we ensure their 360 degree safety.
This means that each child needs to feel, physically, emotionally, socially and mentally safe in everything that we do – i.e. from water activities to strenuous activities to normal discussions.
We take responsibility for providing care, support and mentorship for our campers very seriously and would love to answer any questions or concerns you may have.
We look forward to hearing from you.

Food Service
From Delicious Food to Allergy Safety
At MYC, we hold food service to the same standard as all other aspects of camp . . . excellence with a higher purpose.
Food is integral to the ministry and program of camp. Its quality reflects the broader program as a whole. “Good food and a great meal experience prime the pump for everything else that happens at camp.”
A great deal of planning and forethought go into the food services for each camperʼs meal experience as a whole. The camp directors and food services manager spend many hours together, evaluating and tweaking the camp food “experience,” including: safety, nutrition, taste/quality, and fun! It is our mission to ensure that meal time reflects the excellence, creativity, and spontaneity of MYC. \
MYC Food Services/Kitchen Manager, holds the philosophy that it is our job to provide safe, nutritious, and delicious meals to every camper.
In keeping with the importance placed on relationships at MYC, meals are served “family style.” We see so many benefits to serving meals this way. Facilitators / Team Leaders serve as the “hosts” of each table, which consists of the Team Members of that TEAM. At camp, we want to encourage a real sense of community, and meal time is the perfect time to do just that.
As we mentioned earlier, safety is always on our minds. With allergy awareness and food sensitivities on the rise, parent communication remains crucial in meal planning and precautionary measures. Armed with this information, our Food Services / Kitchen Manager informs/trains the kitchen staff (Kitchen Directors, Cooks, Work Crew Bosses, and Crew) and makes camp-wide menu adjustments where needed.
The campersʼ safety and parents peace of mind is always at the forefront of our mind.
